Help a charity by donating your old electronics

Get Hitched Give Hope is a local non-profit group started by businesses in the Seattle area who specialize in the wedding and bridal industry. They host an annual event to raise funds to grant wishes for breast cancer patients. This year, they are partnering with BuyMyTronics to help reduce and recycle electronic clutter and raise money!

I’ve talked about this specific organizing challenge many times – and here is a great way to get rid of that old cell phone or laptop that is gathering dust in the closet at work or home. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to donate any gadget you’re not using anymore and feel good about it, too.

To make it even easier, Innovatively Organized will act as a collection agent, so just get ready to hand over that old cell phone, computer or video game when we see you! Or contact us to have us pick it up or schedule time to drop it off with us. They won’t be collecting forever so contact us SOON!

Shred-a-thon Events in your area

Clearing paper clutter is important, but shredding sensitive papers is also critical to ensure against identity theft. Bookmark this page from the Washington State Attorney General’s Office web site that outlines local shredding events throughout the state in 2010. Most of the free events let you bring up to two file boxes of documents. Get shredding!

This tradeshow is the largest B2B expo in the region and Innovatively Organized will be there! There is an exciting event coming up next week and you should know about it and join me at this exciting Seattle Chamber luncheon event next Thursday, May 6. The Women’s Success Experience builds a community among women who are moving business to the next level. With inspiring presentations by trailblazing and innovative thought leaders, this is an important forum for making connections.

The speaker will be Kristin van Ogtrop, the editor of Real Simple magazine. She has also held positions at Glamour, Vogue, Travel & Leisure, and Premiere. Her book “Just Let Me Lie Down” is an alphabetically arranged dictionary of terms, observations, lists, questions, and the occasional diatribe about the little joys and major nonsense that define life for van Ogtrop-and untold women like her-on a daily basis.

It’s that time again! Empty your closet and make room for your spring wardrobe additions by bringing all your gently worn accessories and clothing to our popular clothes swap event. There will be racks and tables to display items, and you’ll be able to “shop and swap” with other attendees. Merchandise will be sorted by type and season, so feel free to bring winter coats, business suits, shoes, and other pieces that you feel others could re-use or re-wear!

Also at this event, you’ll have the opportunity to bring all your old cosmetics and skin care products and exchange them for a discount on fresh, new MARY KAY® products! There will be an official MARY KAY® beauty consultant at the event to help you figure out your colors and product needs. There will also be fun prizes and a raffle!

Event Recap – NW Womens Show & NAPO Vendor Fair

The weekend was a flurry of activity for Innovatively Organized!

Our booth at the NW Women’s Show was extremely busy with hundreds of visitors stopping to find out more on organizing their homes and businesses. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the show, it’s the largest expo of its kind in the country, featuring a multitude of exhibitors aimed at the needs of women. There were vendors showcasing fashion, health and wellness, home decor, money matters, workplace leadership, food, travel and beauty. One of the most popular organizing questions we heard from guests was about paper management. Despite our addiction to communicating online and with electronic gadgets, everyone still needs to conquer the paper pile! Check out my paper management tips for more help with clearing the paper clutter.

Also over the weekend was the first annual Vendor Fair & Ask the Organizer Panel sponsored by the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO). Attendees were able to meet local organizers and get questions about organization answered by a panel of experts.

The 2010 Spring into Organizing Vendor Fair and Ask the Organizer Panel is just a few weeks away!

Be sure you’ve scheduled time on Saturday, March 6, 2010 to come by the Sheraton Hotel in Bellevue. You’ll be glad you did! The Expo starts at 9:00 AM with fantastic products, presentations and door prizes until 1:00 PM. This event, sponsored by the Seattle Area Chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers, is sure to be packed with fun organizing tips and products. The Women to Women Committee is a networking group for working and non-working women who meet once a month to discuss ideas and share experiences, both business and personal. This month, I’ll be speaking on a variety of organizing topics at their luncheon at the Columbia Tower Club this Wednesday, January 27th. Club members are admitted free and it’s only $25 for guests or non-members.
